NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

This scheme, popularly known as N.S.S. is a noble experiment in the academic framework. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among the students and teachers through sustained community interaction. It brings our academic institutions closer to the society. It shows how to combine knowledge and action to achieve results which are desirable for community development.
Over the years NSS has emerged as the India's largest student-youth movement in linkage with the community.
The department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India and Ministry of Human Resource Development (New Delhi) considers NSS as a priority programme and they continuously review its progress in order to strengthen it further.
The NSS volunteers are required to complete 120 hours of national service per academic year. They are also required to complete one special camp for sustainable national development for 10 days continuously and 8 hours per day. Such volunteers after rendering 240 hours of National service, get certificate from the concerned University. Such volunteers are also eligible for the benefit of ten (10) Grace Marks Under Section 0.229-A- of the University Act.
Preference is given in Public Service Commission to a candidate who is holding such certificate for two years of service in NSS and for attending the Y.F.S.D (i.e. Youth for Sustainable Development) camp.
The motto of NSS is "Not Me, But You". It stands for the following two ideals, (i) to forget and surrender the self and (ii) to render selfless service to the entire nation.

Mulund College Of Commerce has provided a platform in the name of "Religious Awareness Association" to the youth to accept this challenge which is a part of our great heritage. Though religious growth is an individual pursuit, to provide a channel for the spiritual upliftment is the only motto of this association.
Religious Awareness Association was inaugurated by Swamini Purusnanda of Chinmaya Mission on June 17th 2000. She spoke on the topic "Sky is the Limit….." which inspired the gathered students.
The committee worked out on Internal Quiz Contest on the topic 'Art of Man Making' on 25th Aug,2000 conducted nationally. "Miss Mahalaxmi S. of S.Y.B.Com stood 2nd in the district level and qualified for the state level .
